One of the greatest joys of my work with aneW Consulting & Events (aneW CE) is when families invite me back into their homes to continue writing their story through design. For Newton and Brittany Dennis, I had the honor of decorating their entire home a few years ago—leaving one room intentionally untouched. Fast forward two years, and that empty space blossomed into something magical: their baby’s first room.
For their first child, the theme was Oh, the Places You’ll Go! Since this family loves to travel, it was only fitting to carry that adventurous spirit into their second child’s nursery—but with a fresh twist. Together, we landed on the theme: “We Can Barely Wait to Meet You.”
The Creative Vision
One thing I love about working with Newton and Brittany is that they give me the creative freedom to dream big. When you allow a creative to be fully creative, you get the best of both worlds: originality and authenticity. Instead of boxing in the design to a preset look, they trust me to unlock new possibilities.
This time, I wanted to play with dimension. I’m known for my 3D wall designs, but instead of stopping at the walls, I took the concept upward—onto the ceiling. A few panel accents gave the room a subtle but powerful statement, setting the tone for the rest of the design.
We then wove in the theme of travel through hot air balloons and teddy bears—inspired by a Pinterest spark that grew into something unique. Big Brother even helped choose the baby’s name, which we proudly displayed as part of the room’s focal point.
Custom Touches
No project of mine is complete without something handcrafted. For this nursery, I built the bookshelves and floating shelves myself. The artwork was a mix of custom aneW creations and curated Etsy finds, carefully printed and styled to fit the space.
And because every family I design for receives one—yes, you guessed it—we included a globe. In fact, every room in the Dennis home already had one. For me, finding the right globe for a space is an art, and this one tied their love of travel and their son’s new journey perfectly.
A Room That Grows with Him
Designing a nursery isn’t just about the now—it’s about the future. This space was created to grow with Baby Blaze. The crib transitions into a bed. The rocker will one day be his chair. The teddy bears will become keepsakes, and the books will evolve with his reading fluency. Clean, timeless, and adaptable—that was our goal.
Beyond the Nursery
The design journey didn’t stop here. We carried the same theme into the baby shower—“We Can Barely Wait to Meet You”—which I’ll be sharing in my next post. From room to celebration, we made sure every detail spoke to the love, anticipation, and adventure that define this family’s story.
Blaze is now two years old, and I can already feel an update coming soon. That’s the beauty of design that evolves—it’s never truly finished. It grows just as the family does.
Until then, I’ll keep doing what I do best: helping families #makeitaneW.
